Chief Mike McQuaig

In 2016 the Dunnellon Police Department welcomed Mike McQuaig as its new Chief.  He comes to us following a long and illustrious career. He was with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office for 30 years during which time he worked in almost every division.  This included being the Bureau Chief as a Major in the Major Crimes Division.  After retiring from the Sheriff’s Office, Chief McQuaig went to work as a contractor for the U.S. Department of State. For 9 years he trained and taught over 2400 hours to high level police officers worldwide. He worked in over 40 countries (South America, Africa, The Middle East, and Russia) training their highest ranking police officers in topics including Major Case Management, Combating Domestic and Transnational Terrorism, Hostage Negotiations and Police Leader's Role in Reducing Terrorism. Chief McQuaig has a BA in Criminal Justice and is a Graduate of the Southern Police Academy.

Chief McQuaig and his wife Cyndie are parents to 5 children.  Two sons are with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, another son is in the Navy on a Nuclear Submarine. One daughter is a teacher and the other a nurse.  They also have 11 grandchildren.  Besides his family, Chief is very involved in his Church and loves to fish and hunt.  Mrs. McQuaig says his priorities in order are God, Family and Work and that helps to give him the perspective and balance to work in such a challenging field.

Chief McQuaig believes his career in law enforcement is not a job but a calling.  He has become a true community leader.  With the help of a supportive wife, being grounded in Christ, years of experience and a vast network of friends, international experience and colleagues in a multitude of law enforcement agencies, Chief McQuaig has brought a great deal to the Dunnellon Police Department.
