City Councilmembers

The City of Dunnellon operates with a board consisting of five City Councilmembers, who are elected to staggered four-year terms. One of the five Councilmembers is elected as Mayor. The City Councilmembers represent all City residents as they are not elected to districts. The Councilmembers are ultimately responsible for the citizens of Dunnellon. The Council performs such duties as passing the City’s fiscal budget, setting the millage rate, passing the Ordinances and Resolutions, and appointing a chief administrative officer, known as the City Clerk. The Council elects one of its members to serve as Vice-Mayor on an annual basis.

Walter Green

Term Ends: November 2028
Seat One

Councilman Walter Green  was appointed to Seat 5 on the Dunnellon City Council in November of 2023 and then to Seat 1  (Mayor) in January of 2024.

Walter was born in Saint Petersburg, Florida and moved to Dunnellon with his family when he was 9 years old. He graduated from Dunnellon High School in 1969 and accepted a position with the Seaboard Coastline Railroad whose hub was located at the Dunnellon Train Depot. His duties and assignments with the railroad company allowed him to travel and he spent many years away from Dunnellon seeing the sights. However, most of Walter’s family remained here. Walter returned to Dunnellon in 2007, bought a home in 2008, and has enjoyed living here ever since.

Walter had proudly served on the Dunnellon City Council prior to his most recent appointment. He was elected to serve as a Councilman in 2014 and in 2016 he was appointed Vice-Mayor. Later in the same year, he was elected to the Mayor’s seat and continued to serve until 2018.

“This opportunity to serve our citizens once again on the Dunnellon City Council is an honor. My commitment to my hometown is a pledge to serve with integrity and thoughtful consideration. The views and concerns of my fellow citizens will serve as my guidepost as we begin the new year.“
